Nike Golf Club Review

Nike SQ Dymo Driver
Specs

Nike deploys a variety of product lines reaching recreational golfers and playing professionals. Nike's driver and wood categories are highlighted by the SQ Dymo series while their iron lineup consists of the Victory Red, SQ Sumo and Slingshot models. The SQ Dymo driver comes in multiple configurations, allowing users to personalize their specifications. Nike's Victory Red series is available in three separate tiers. The SQ Sumo and Slingshot series are game improvement irons, catering to mid to high handicappers.

Perks

Nike's Victory Red is a forged iron that allows maximum workability and consistency. The Victory Red irons are Nike's best offering for more accomplished golfers seeking enhanced feel. SQ Sumo and Slingshot models offer excellent perimeter weighting and substantial cavity backs, translating to more forgiveness on mishits. Unlike previous driver designs from Nike, the SQ Sumo is more visually appealing than its predecessors.

Sacrifices

Although the Victory Red irons target more advanced golfers, Nike lacks sufficient offerings for low handicappers. Nike's focus on game improvement equipment is one of the biggest drawbacks regarding their current and past product lines. This provides fewer options for experienced players who require responsiveness and prefer to work the ball. Furthermore, many golf traditionalists trust competing brands on a larger scale due to their experience and history in the golf industry.

Bottom Line

While gaining popularity with more skilled golfers, Nike Golf is beginning to evolve into a much more balanced product offering. However, with more experienced manufacturers churning out higher quality equipment, superior value for the price can typically be found.

Golf Equipment Tip of the Day

Using Frequency to Test the Flex of Your Shafts
by Jeff Jackson
What's the flex of your shafts? At one time, a golfer could safely answer that his or her shafts were stiff, regular or ladies flex. That simply isn't the case any longer. Most manufacturers have their own method of shaft measurement. What this means is that one company's "R" flex shaft may actually be softer than another's "A" or even "L" flex. How, then, can a golfer select the appropriate shaft if no manufacturing standard exists? In a word: frequency.
