Sky Caddie SG3 Reviews
Specs

The Sky Caddie SG3 weighs 5.8 ounces, with the patented Intelligreen technology. This allows you to read the green depth from any angle and is an excellent help while judging your approach. It has a large, legible black and white LCD screen that reads the distance to the hole plus every target in between you and the hole. It reads targets like water hazards and roughs. It includes a 10 course memory and is water resistant but not waterproof. Also, it runs on two "AA" batteries.

Perks

It is easy to carry, as it weighs under 6 oz and fits right in your palm. The Intelligreen feature lets you read the depth of the green from every angle, and therefore more accurately execute your shot. Since it measures the distance to the hole from any part of the course, and has mapping for the center, front and back of the green, it can improve your score dramatically.

Sacrifices

Since the unit is not fully water proof you risk damaging it if it is dropped in the water. There is also no color display. The price is not much lower than similar models and even a few with color screens and some more advanced features. You are required to buy a subscription which runs between $30 and $60 a year to use the SG3 as well.

Bottom Line

If you want a simple to use golfing GPS that requires little set up time and works right out of the box then this is the unit for you. It is very easy to navigate the unit, plus it offers the most important measuring features for weekend golfers.

Golf Equipment Tip of the Day

Using Frequency to Test the Flex of Your Shafts
by Jeff Jackson
What's the flex of your shafts? At one time, a golfer could safely answer that his or her shafts were stiff, regular or ladies flex. That simply isn't the case any longer. Most manufacturers have their own method of shaft measurement. What this means is that one company's "R" flex shaft may actually be softer than another's "A" or even "L" flex. How, then, can a golfer select the appropriate shaft if no manufacturing standard exists? In a word: frequency.
