Adams Golf Iron Reviews
Specs

The Idea Pro irons set from Adams Golf is designed for the better player, but also brings in some of the best in game improvement technology. It is a forged set of forgiving perimeter-weighted irons, but the most distinctive feature in this set is Adams' choice to replace the 3 and 4 irons with the brand's very popular hybrid clubs. The 5-PW club has a slim top line view and fairly narrow soles for cavity-backed clubs that is attractive to highly skilled players, but the perimeter weighting increases the size of the club's sweet spot, aiding forgiveness for off-center hits for the mid to high handicapper. These clubs feature a low center of gravity to help you get the ball airborne and no offset in the hosel.

Perks

A set like the Adams Idea Pro that comes equipped with hybrid clubs offers you the benefit of not having to replace these clubs yourself. Hybrids have revolutionized the golf equipment business in recent years and even the most skilled players opt to trade in some of their long irons for more forgiving, easier to hit, hybrid clubs.

Sacrifices

The Idea Pro does not offer all of the workability of a traditional player's club. The hybrid replacements, while attractive to players who fear long irons, is more of a challenge to low handicap players who consider the long irons a strength of their game. The Idea Pro is perhaps not as much of a player's club as advertised.

Bottom Line

The Adams Idea Pro is a great set of irons for the middle handicapper about 8-15 index and not truly the player's club the company positions it as. That said, it does offer superior forgiveness and a fairly unusual set makeup that includes two hybrid clubs.

Industry Experts Debate What Makes an Iron Easy to Hit
by Mike Chwasky
What makes an iron easy to hit? It's a question golfers and designers have been asking since the days of the Nicoll Cleek and Forrester Mashie. When it comes to drivers and woods, it's not nearly as mysterious. Big, light club heads, long graphite shafts and modern materials are easy to spot, and their functions are relatively obvious. With irons it's a different story. At first glance, most irons are almost indistinguishable from one another. Yes, some have longer blades or more offset, but for the most part, irons don't look that much different than they did 25 years ago.
