Bluff, Utah, in the San Juan River Valley, was originally founded in 1880 by Mormon pioneers who wanted to establish a farming community. Today it has a population of about 300 residents. Bluff borders the Navajo nation to the south and 300-foot sandstone bluffs on the north. Hotels in Bluff have a rustic appeal and reflect Mormon and Native American influence. The nearest golf course to Bluff is Hideout Golf Club, which is 25 miles north in Blanding.

Recapture Lodge

This lodge is located under 300-foot, red sandstone cliffs along the San Juan River, and has been welcoming guests since the 1950s. The family-owned establishment, recommended by AAA, has 29 guest rooms. Select rooms have fully-equipped kitchens with cooking and eating utensils, stoves/ovens, refrigerators, microwaves, sinks and coffee makers. Free wireless Internet is available in all rooms. The property has a laundry facility, an outdoor swimming pool and hot tub, a playground, a breakfast bar that opens at 6 a.m., 24-hour front desk and airport shuttle. Desert Rose Inn

This hotel uses wooden architecture to capture rustic charm and has received the AAA Three-Diamond rating. This bed-and-breakfast hotel, on the National Historic Register list and Utah Register of Historic Places, is surrounded by trees and is close to Monument Valley and national parks. The five guest rooms have private entrances and porches to enjoy nature. Rooms contain private baths, refrigerators and coffee pots and have high-speed wireless Internet. Select rooms have kitchenettes. Guests have access to the common kitchen for preparing meals, available from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., and the sitting room to read, play games or eat. Calf Canyon Inn

Located on the Bluff City Historic Loop, this three-room bed and breakfast is on the site of the 1880s Hunt House. The Chief's Room has a queen-size bed with a woven Navajo wall rug and artwork and a view of the San Juan River Valley and the sandstone bluffs. The Storm Room has a queen-size bed and views of Casa del Eco Mesa and San Juan River Valley. The Pioneer Room features New England-style antiques and a double-sized four-poster bed with views of Casa del Eco Mesa and San Juan River Valley.
