Maui Oceanfront Hotels

Maui Oceanfront Hotels
Also known as the Magic Isle, Maui is the second largest island in the Hawaiian chain and is a popular enough destination that direct flights are available from many mainland U.S. airports. Oceanfront accommodations are prevalent all over Maui, from secluded small properties to giant, luxury resorts. Golf is centered primarily in the south and west tourist-laden areas of the island.

Hana Kai Maui

Tucked into the rain forest at the end of the road to Hana, the Hana Kai Maui is an intimate oceanfront hotel with condo-style rooms that have kitchens. The resort is perched above a small crescent of beach where you can see sea turtles nesting, dolphins frolicking and spectacular sunrises. The hotel provides complimentary beach towels and wireless Internet, and there is a laundry facility available for an additional fee. Guest suites have high-thread-count linens, all-natural bath amenities and lanais. Hiking, horseback riding and snorkeling are all available nearby. The closest golf course is the upcountry Pukalani Country Club near Haleakala, which has open fairways and 360-degree views.

Renaissance Wailea

Located right on Mokapu Beach with direct beach access and a beachfront swimming pool, the Renaissance Wailea is in south Maui in the tourist-heavy Wailea area. The five-star resort has an infinity pool, a luxury spa and easy access to boutique shopping. Guest rooms have views of either the beach or the mountains and are contemporary following a recent renovation. Deep soaking tubs are a unique amenity and all rooms have in-room coffee makers and refrigerators. The resort offers golf packages at the Wailea Blue, Emerald and Gold courses, which offer stunning views in addition to challenging golf.

The Whaler

A condo resort right on the beach in Kaanapali, the Whaler is a well-known moderately priced Maui property. Recently acquired by Aston Hotels, the resort has undergone a face lift that includes renovations to the beachfront pool. There is a koi pond and garden, spa, workout area, kids program and high-speed Internet access on site. The hotel is walking distance to the Whaler's Village shopping and dining area. Guest suites range in size from studios to two-bedroom condos, all of which have kitchens and lanais. The Kaanapali North and South golf courses are across the street, and tee times can be arranged through the hotel.
