Carmel/Monterey Peninsula Airport
Located 22 miles north of Big Sur, the Carmel/Monterey Peninsula Airport (MRY) is served by commercial airlines Allegiant, American, United and US Airways and is also open to private planes. More than 40 commercial flights go in and out of the airport daily. There are two parallel runways at the airport and the longer runway is 7,000 feet. Rental cars are available through national agencies Alamo, Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz and National.

San Jose International Airport
Located 75 miles north of Big Sur, the San Jose International Airport (SJC) is served by most major commercial and discount airlines. Most major rental cars agencies are represented at this airport and taxis, limos and shuttles are available on the first floor, where baggage claim is located. The airport has 22 gates for domestic airlines in Terminal A and 14 in terminal C. International flights arrive in terminal A, where there is a customs area. Private planes are permitted to land at this airport and there is a separate terminal area and services available for civil aviation flights.

San Luis Obispo County Airport
Located 92 miles south of Big Sur, the San Luis Obispo County Airport is served by United Express and US Airways and welcomes private planes. The airport has a single terminal and one runway that is 4,000 feet long. Rental cars from Avis, Budget, Enterprise and Hertz are available at the airport, which also has four parking lots on site.

San Francisco International Airport
Located 98 miles north of Big Sur, San Francisco International (SFO) is one of the 30 busiest airports in the world and is the the biggest airport within a two-hour drive of Big Sur. San Francisco International is served by most major and discount carriers and is a regional hub for United. The airport is served by most major rental car agencies and taxis, limos and local buses are available at the ground transportation area. BART, the area's rapid transit system, has a station at the airport, connecting it to downtown San Francisco and the entire San Francisco Bay Area. There are 102 gates in four terminals, including the recently renovated international terminal, which is a gateway to Asia. Private planes may land at SFO and have a separate terminal area and services available.
