Golf Warm Up Exercises

Golf Warm Up Exercises
Contrary to the thought of many non-golfers, golf is not a sedentary game. Through the years, there have been some overweight and out-of-shape golfers who have been successful on the pro tour, but they were the exception and not the rule. Today's golfers work on getting themselves in much better condition. They walk 4 to 5 miles during an 18-hole round, and they do it 4 days in a row. Most golfers do warm-up exercises before they begin their round in order to be at their best when they tee off.

Push-ups in the Locker Room

As you put on your golf clothes and golf shoes, get in a push-up position and do 10 push-ups, followed by another set of 10. You are not trying to set any records. You are just trying to get the blood flowing and warming up. This will pump a little life into your chest and upper arms, and should help you get decent height and distance on your first drive.

Running to the First Tee

The distance from the locker room or the pro shop to the first tee is usually between 200 and 300 yards at most golf courses. This is the perfect distance to warm up your body. Walk with your clubs to the first tee, and then run back to the pro shop and return to the first tee. This will get your body warmed up just enough to feel sharp as your start your round.

Isometric Exercises

Put your left hand on the left side of your head. Press your head into your hand with about 80 percent pressure, and press back with your hand. Hold that pressure for about 3 seconds. Repeat the pressure five times, and then do the same thing on your right side. This will be good for your head and neck muscles.
