Phoenix Hotel
Not all Phoenix hotels are in Arizona. The Phoenix Hotel in San Francisco is in the civic center area of town. Unfortunately, when you're looking for things outside the hotel for kids to do, the best place to be is Fisherman's Wharf. But there's a trolley that will get you there and makes for an enjoyable trip. The pool at the Phoenix Hotel is a landmark of sorts, with a mural on the bottom of it that makes quite an impression on the kids. The guest rooms are decorated in bungalow style with a DVD player and high-speed Internet in each room. There's also a complimentary continental breakfast that can be had poolside and the Bambuddha Restaurant and Lounge, where you can take the family for dinner Wednesday through Sunday.

Hyatt at Fisherman's Wharf
At the Hyatt Fisherman's Wharf hotel, the location is a real spoiler. You can be out the door and on the Pier with a short stroll. The kids are going to truly love a walk down to the Ghirardelli Chocolate Factory for some free samples and enough chocolate to wreck their appetites over and over again. The rooms vary in size from a modest 300 square feet up to 450 and more than 500 square feet for a suite-sized room. The best bet for the family without breaking the budget is the over-sized rooms with 350 square feet and two queen beds. The hotel has a really nice outdoor pool with areas for getting some sun when you're not splashing around. There's also a fairly large fitness center and one of the most popular seafood restaurants on the wharf, Knuckles, is onsite.
