Chardonnay
You'll find more than two-dozen Chardonnays out of four continents, with most of them coming from California vineyards. Look for fine bottles from wineries such as Neil Ellis in South Africa, Vega Sindoa in Spain and Nugan Estate in Australia. California representatives include Peter Michael Winery in Sonoma; Miner Family Vineyards in Napa; and Patz & Hall in the Russian River Valley.
More Whites
White Burgundy and Sauvignon Blanc are among the many other white wines that will vie for your attention. The French white Burgundies include Joseph Drouhin Grand Cru at the high end, and Celine & Laurent Tripoz with a more moderate price tag. For Sauvignon Blanc, you have a range of choices from South Africa, New Zealand, France and California. Also, be sure to look at the section featuring white wines off the beaten path. Interesting options include Woop Woop Verdelho from Southeastern Australia and Domaine Schlumberger Gewurztraminer from Alsace.
Sparkling Wines
For some pizazz, choose among the nearly 30 sparkling wines on the list. Moderately priced choices include Two Hands "Brilliant Disguise" from Australia, and U Mes U Fan Tres "1+1=3" from Spain. Pricier options include Perrier Jouet "Fleur de Champagne" and Moet & Chandon Dom Perignon "Enotheque," both from France.
Cabernet Sauvignon
The extensive list of red wines begins with Cabernets and proprietary blends from Africa, Australia and North and South America. Try the South African De Trafford; Argentina's Bodegas Catena Zapata; Noon Winery's Reserve from Australia; or La Sirena from Napa Valley.
More Reds
If you prefer other reds, you have a wide choice there, too. Go for Staete Landt from New Zealand; Church Creek Meritage from Virginia; or Flora Springs Merlot from California. Don't miss the selection of "delicious alternatives" such as Australia's Massena "The Howling Dog" Petit Sirah and Agentina's Vina Las Perdice Malbec. You'll also find separate sections for red wines from Spain, Italy and the Rhone.
