Famous Cities in Texas

Famous Cities in Texas
On any given day in January, it could be snowing in Texas's Panhandle region while it might be near 80 degrees in Galveston to the southeast. Not only is Texas huge and the second largest state in the United States, it also has the second largest population. While many people think Dallas is the largest city by population in the state, it is actually the third-largest behind Houston and San Antonio. The state has about 25 million people, far behind California with its almost 36 million residents. And because golf is a big leisure-time activity in Texas, you'll find well-maintained courses in virtually every city you visit.

San Antonio

The San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau says that almost 26 million people visit San Antonio every year. Besides being the mecca for families with children due to its Seaworld and Six Flags theme parks, it's also home to the famous Alamo, River Walk and the Towers of Americas. But not all visitors come to San Antonio for these attractions. They also come to play the many well-maintained golf courses like Republic Golf Course, the 18-hole track that's over 7,000 yards long and a test for even the most accomplished golfer.

Dallas

According to a press release from the United States Census Bureau, Dallas has the fastest-growing population of any city in the United States. Furthermore, besides Houston and New York City, Dallas is home to more Fortune 500 companies than any other city in the country. Dallas and its metropolitan area is the largest commercial entity in the United States without a link to the sea. But the rail lines and the busy Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport make the city an important international hub. When Dallas residents are not working, they're playing golf on one of the great local golf courses like Stevens Park that, at 6005 yards, will challenge you to hit every club in your bag.

Houston

Houston is the largest city in Texas, and Houston and its metropolitan area is the sixth largest in the United States. It was named for Sam Houston who was the president of the Republic of Texas and the commander of U. S. troop[s at the Battle of San Jacinto, which happened about 25 miles east of Houston. The world's largest aggregation of research and health facilities are located in Houston, including the Johnson Space Center and NASA's Mission Control Center. To say that golf is huge in Houston is an understatement. There are seven municipal courses within Houston's city limits, including Brock Park that many people have called "Houston's best kept secret." It costs less than $20 to play an 18-hole round there.
