Austin is well known as the Live Music Capital of the World, where you can find live music playing anytime and anywhere, but after a morning of golf and an afternoon of drinks at a good sports bar, it is always nice to have a good meal. Besides barbeque, Texas is known for steak. There are good places to have a steak and great places--when visiting Austin, there are a few you might want to visit.
Ruth's Chris Steak House
Ruth's Chris has a reputation for down home service, but the service does not compare to its USDA Prime steak it serves. Begun in 1965 in New Orleans by Ruth Fertel, the original restaurant was known for its corn feed beef and hospitality to every customer. It has grown to be named "The Best Steak in Austin" by both the Austin American Statesman and Texas Monthly.
This thriving restaurant has also become one of the hangouts of the famous. It's not unusual to see Roger Clemens or Nolan Ryan feasting next to you during your visit to Ruth's Chris.
The wine list at Ruth's Chris has received the Award of Excellence from The Wine Spectator every year since 1994.

Bordeaux's
Southwest of Austin is Kyle, Texas, and a steakhouse called Bordeaux's, a steak person's dream come true. The filet mignon or rib eye are both grilled over an open flame and served to order. Bordeaux's will not only give you a steak, but with their full bar and 42-inch plasma television, the avid golfer will not miss any major sporting events.
The appetizers, side dishes and main courses are all served generously, and you don't have to fight the Austin traffic. The outside of the locally owned restaurant might not impress you, but the food will keep you coming back.

Sullivan's Steakhouse
Sullivan's Steakhouse specializes in the 20-oz. bone-in Kansas City strip, and it's almost too much to eat. Along with the great steak, you will fall in love with horseradish mashed potatoes served on the side. All Sullivan's desserts are made in-house and really finish off the meal.
This 1940s style steakhouse is a must place to eat when you visit Austin, but make reservations, especially on Thursday, because the bar is swinging with food and drinks. It has a live entertainment every night and serves a good cognac.
