Golf Tips on Swing and Speed Drills
The importance of adding speed to an already mature golf swing should seem obvious. If you have a relatively solid swing and you can improve your club head speed, you will get more distance to your shots. While the difference between a 250-yard drive and a 270-yard drive may not mean a lot in terms of strokes in a particular round, hititng the ball further will have a psychological benefit that will make you a better golfer.

Keep your right knee solid

You don't want to give any of your power away by moving your right knee. When you address the ball, you want both knees flexed to put you in an athletic position. However, you don't want to lose power by shifting your right leg around. Keep your right knee solid so you can launch into the ball at full speed.

Weighted club

Use a weighted club to build swing speed. A 3-pound weighted club will build strength in your wrists and hands and that's what you need to build club head speed at impact. Try swinging the weighted club for five mintues at a time. First the back swing, then the downswing and then the follow through. Eventually, try swinging the club fully in one motion.

Building core strength

One of the best ways to build more speed in your swing is by building core strength. Sit on an exercise ball and do curls with a 5-pound dumbbell. Find the balance point on the ball and alternate curls with your right and left arms. Do 10 with each arm, take a 30-second break and repeat the set.
