Romantic Things to Do in New York City

Romantic Things to Do in New York City
A golf vacation isn't always solely about the golf. Often a golf vacation is a chance for a nice couple's getaway. And no city better presents the opportunity for a nice romantic getaway than New York. "The City That Never Sleeps" is home to some of the most romantic locales and activities in the nation, as well as to a bevy of hotels and fine dining establishments.

Picnicing in Central Park

One of the most famous parks in the United States, Central Park offers a zoo, radio boat races, ice cream and food stands, and a world-famous carousel. Not only that, its vast greenery provides numerous spots to enjoy a romantic picnic, whether it be brunch, early dinner or some other variety. After your picnic, take a romantic carriage ride along one of the park paths or enjoy a paddleboat ride.

City Lights Cruises

Pier 81, a chain of cruise lines that operates around the globe, offers three-hour city lights tours through New York City. These cruises feature a four-course meal, drinks, a DJ and plenty of NYC scenery. The cruise goes down the Hudson River, around Manhattan, under the Brooklyn Bridge, reaches the Statue of Liberty and more. This is a must-see for anyone looking to take in the sights and sounds of New York City.

Rockefeller Center

One of the unquestioned highlights of a trip to NYC, particularly during the holiday season, Rockefeller Center is a prime spot for shopping, dining and entertainment, as well as the location of Radio City Music Hall. The central hub of Rockefeller Center is the 70-story GE Building at 30 Rock, which is home to NBC and some of its top programming, including "Saturday Night Live" and "The Today Show." Tours can be arranged through the building or tourists can simply walk the area at night to enjoy the romantic vibe. Cap off the night during the holiday season by ice skating at Rockefeller Center near the world-famous super-sized Christmas tree.

Take in a Sporting Event

While not everyone's idea of a romantic activity, some couples' relationships are based in part on the mutual understanding of love for a particular sport. What better way to celebrate this love than by taking in one of the many area sports teams?

This may include a trip to legendary Madison Square Garden to catch the New York Knicks of the NBA, or perhaps you might want to trek to the brand-new Yankee Stadium in the Bronx to catch the world-famous Yankees. Football fans can make the short subway trek to the Meadowlands in New Jersey to catch the Giants or Jets in action.

This will obviously depend on the the sport in season, and which teams are playing at home during a particular time, but for those diehard sports fanatics looking to enjoy a romantic evening with their significant other, NYC offers plenty in that regard. This may even include a golf outing with your loved one at one of the area's many prestigious golf courses.

View From the Empire State Building

Sometimes, a view says it all. On that note, visiting the top of the Empire State Building--particularly later in the day when the lights are beginning to go in in New York City--is one of the top activities for romantic vacationers. Located in Midtown Manhattan, the Empire State Building is surrounded by a bevy of shops and restaurants. Why not top off a day of shopping and dining by taking in a sky-high view of one of the world's most breathtaking city?
