La Villita
La Villita Historic Arts Village is located on the south bank of the San Antonio river, and was San Antonio's first official neighborhood. These days, it's a tourist draw that features a number of outlets for those looking to sample San Antonio. These include a number of local shops--clothes retailers, jewelers, artisans--and restaurants, including a number of quality Mexican food establishments.

San Antonio Missions
You can't truly appreciate San Antonio's history without checking out the local missions. With the original founded in 1718 by the Franciscans and Spanish, that number had grown to 5 within 15 years. These missions were constructed to teach Christianity to the locals. These days, the missions are major tourists draws in San Antonio, as they allow tourists an opportunity to see firsthand the legacy left behind by mission Indians and friars.
