Outdoor Items
Hawaii features some of the most beautiful scenery in the world, so it stands to reason that vacationers will spend a good portion of their vacation outdoors. In addition to a swimsuit and towel, be sure to pack a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, flip-flops and comfortable walking shoes. Also, "water safes" are a valuable item, in that they keep all personal items (such as cell phones and wallets) safe from water damage. Perhaps most important is an umbrella, as rain is quite common in the Hawaiian islands. However, many of these rains pass without incident, so bringing an umbrella for temporary cover will allow you to still enjoy some outdoor activities.
Other Items
For indoor activities, be sure to pack more formal wear, including khakis or jeans, button-down shirts or skirt/dress, and nicer shoes. Also, take care to pack toiletries and "essentials," such as contacts, glasses, prescription medication, and any items required by health condition or law. And don't forget your digital camera, waterproof camera (for beach and pool activities), photo ID and passport (if you have one).
Golf Items
What would a Hawaiian vacation be without some golf? Pack your golf clubs with a travel cover to protect them at the airport baggage claim. These travel covers are vital for keeping golf clubs safe and secure. Also pack all secondary golf items, such as shoes and caps, that don't go in a golf bag. Your golf wear should include khaki pants/shorts, a light shirt and comfortable golf socks.
Being prepared for anything is imperative, so bring along an umbrella, particularly during the winter when Hawaiian rainfall is at its peak. Also bring along an extra golf glove, particularly if your original glove is showing signs of wear or in case of wet weather. Plus, bring along a second pair of golf shoes, particularly if the weather is rainy and you don't want a "Grade A" pair of golf shoes sullied by muddy and wet conditions.
Remember that Hilo, Hana, Kaneohe average up to 10 inches of precipitation in some months, so these destinations are among the most highly precipitated areas in Hawaii.
