Play Tennis
Duck has no public tennis courts, so you must go to Pine Island Racquet & Fitness Club to satisfy your need for this popular form of exercise. The weather is no problem since the club features both indoor and outdoor courts. The indoor courts are air-conditioned; however, during the heat of the day, you should drink a lot of liquids if you play on the outdoor courts because they are sheltered from the breeze off the ocean. The club is located about 8 miles north of Duck, and its tennis, squash and racquetball courts are open to the public.

Play a Round Of Golf
Few vacations would be complete without playing at least one round of golf. And if you choose to play Nags Head Golf Links, be prepared for a mighty challenge. Course architect, Bob Moore, created a golf course very much in the Scottish tradition, using the area's rugged shoreline that presents the golfer with a completely different golf course each time he tees off on the first tee. Though it is less than 6,200 yards long from the back tees, it is one of the longest courses you'll ever play, according to Golf Digest magazine that places it among the top 50 golf courses in the country. In addition to the golf course, it has a very well stocked pro shop, and a sumptuous practice green and driving range.

Tour A Lighthouse
Several years ago, North Carolina adopted Cape Hatteras Lighthouse as the states symbol. It is the tallest lighthouse in the U. S. and the light from its beacon can be seen by ships at night from as far as 20 miles away. For over a century, it has warned sailors of shallow waters that extend some 14 miles from Cape Hatteras out to sea. This lighthouse is open to visitors from early in April through the middle of October. Climb the almost 30 steps to the top of the lighthouse and you'll be amazed by the beauteous sight of the national seashore below. During the summer, you will enjoy the lectures on the shipwrecks and storms of the area as well as the pirates that plied the nearby seas. Art classes are offered the children while you can snorkel in the sound or go on a bird walk. Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is due south of Duck, NC, about 75 miles away on Route 12 in Buxton, NC.
