The Best Day Trips in Las Vegas
There are plenty of things to do in Las Vegas that aren't in the center of the Strip. Several top golf courses and popular tourist attractions are just a short drive away. Take a break from the links and tour Hoover Dam or go boating at the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.

Henderson Golf Clubs

The Tuscany Golf Club in Henderson, Nevada, 30 miles from the Strip, features an 18-hole, par-72 layout designed by Ted Robinson. Tuscany, which opened in 1994, includes a practice area, PGA-certified instructors and the Tuscany Cafe restaurant.

The Black Mountain Golf & Country Club is a 27-hole course set against the Black Mountains. The Founders Course, the original 9 holes, opened in 1957. The Horizon Course opened in 1963, the Desert Course in 2003. Amenities include a driving range, pro shop and the Chase Lounge bar and grill.

Hoover Dam

Hoover Dam also is located in Boulder City. The 726-foot tall dam is a popular attraction. Tours of the dam have been offered since 1937, but visitors also can walk around the outside for free and take pictures. There are two different tours: the Power Plant Tour and the Hoover Dam Tour. In 2009, the charge was $30 for the Hoover Dam Tour for all ages. Fees for the Power Plant Tour were $11 for adults and $9 for seniors and children ages 4 to 16. There also is a restaurant on site and a gift shop at the base of the parking center.
