Golfing Equipment
While New Orleans and other major cities do have golf shops, you may have a harder time finding accessories if you travel to a destination out of the grid. You could, of course, buy everything you need at the pro shop inside the golf course, but chances are you'll be overcharged outrageously. To avoid that, bring along everything with which you need to play, especially things that are customized to fit you, such as gloves and shoes. Items that also are worthy of bringing along are implements such as laser rangefinders, scopes, ball markers, pro golf GPS and any other device that it would be too expensive to replace on the go. Don't bother packing towels and other simple accessories, as they usually are provided free of charge at the golf course. If you don't want to drag your clubs along, consider calling golf courses in advance and inquiring about renting them.
The best golfing T-shirts for a climate like the one in Louisiana are those constructed with special materials for hot weather. Examples include Poly-Dri, Dri-Mesh and microfiber. A mix of polyester and cotton will help if that's all you have available.
Everyday Clothing
Summers in Louisiana are extremely hot and humid, with temperatures ranging between 96 and 102 degrees through most of the summer. However, nights are pleasant even in the hottest season, and temperatures usually fall into the 70s once the sun goes down. To survive the heat, make sure you pack linen or other light fabrics that will allow your skin to breathe easily. Layers are essential if you're traveling in the spring or fall, as the temperatures can drop from the mid-70s during the day to the high-40s at night. Tropical weather can impact Louisiana at the end of summer and throughout the fall. If you're traveling during this period, it makes sense to bring rain gear along, including waterproof shoes and a rain jacket. If a tropical storm or hurricane threatens, you may need to alter your travel plans all together.
Louisiana winters are mild, with temperatures averaging in the 50s. Temperatures can drop to the high 20s during the night, though, so a light sweater is a must if you plan to stay out late.
Extras
Bug spray containing DEET is a must during the summer, as mosquitoes are in full force from mid-March through October. Also, you need sunblock and sunglasses to protect your face and skin from the blistering southern sun. If you don't want to buy water bottles every 20 minutes, it may help to bring a refillable one, as the humid weather will push you to drink a lot throughout the day. A pack of wet towelettes is a great idea to help fight the heat: When it becomes unbearable, simply use one to refresh your face, neck and arms.
