If you're headed for Louisiana with your golf group, there are a host of well-maintained golf courses throughout the state that are a pleasure to play. For instance, in New Orleans, there's Lakewood Golf Club; and in Baton Rouge, there are courses like Howell Park and Briarwood Golf Club that will be a challenge regardless of the player's skills. After a day on the links, you might be looking for other entertainment options. On that score, you couldn't have picked a better state because Louisiana has some outstanding casinos. A 1991 law sanctioned gambling on riverboats. A year later it allowed one casino in the city. Today, there are three casinos run by Native American tribes.
Harrah's
If your golf group chooses courses in New Orleans, head for the French Quarter and try your luck at Harrah's New Orleans-- a gigantic 115,000 square feet gambling hall that's open around the clock. If you are a casual gambler who's watching his pennies, bet no more than one at a time at the casino's slot machines. But if you are more daring, there are slot machines that allow you to wager up to $500 a spin. And if poker is your passion, about 20 of the 100 tables at this casino are dedicated to this game.

Cypress Bayou Casino
This casino open its doors in December 1993; and because of the crush of business, it added about three dozen additional table games nine months later. Then it added an additional 50,000 square feet to the facility in 1998. Besides being able to play virtually on any casino game imaginable, this casino has Rikrak, a superb Asian restaurant and an upscale nightclub called Rox. Cypress Bayou Casino is about 115 miles west of New Orleans, and would be ideal if you and your group teed it up in that part of the state.

Coushatta Casino Resort
Many people believe that Coushatta Casino Resort is the best place in Louisiana to gamble. It boasts a casino that's in excess of 100,000 square feet and has over 500 hotel rooms. In addition, it has six great restaurants and provides live entertainment. Of particular note is the contribution that the Coushatta Tribe to the well-being of its staff of over 2,600 people by spending on their education as well as making continued improvements in the casino's plant. This casino is about 200 miles west of New Orleans, about half way to Houston, Texas.
