Things to Do in South Carolina
South Carolina is a prime destination for golfers. Its warm year-round weather and clear skies make for optimal playing conditions, while its nearby beaches and resorts offer a chance to relax and wind down after a day on the putting green.

Kiawah's The Ocean Course

Located at number 4 in Golf Digest magazine's 100 top public golf courses in the U.S., The Ocean Course is located at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort, which offers a relaxing natural environment for players. This is the only course in the Northern Hemisphere where 10 holes are directly placed along the beach, and one of the few that offers such a long stretch of oceanfront dunes to play on. Hole 18 is right over the shore, making for a memorable last shot. The course covers 7,356 yards with a slope of 144 and par 72. The wind, sand and natural obstacles make this a popular course for those who want a challenging play.

South Carolina is home to a number of golf events and tournaments throughout the year, most of which happen in August and September, including the PGA TOUR Superstore World Amateur Handicap Championship, the NKF Golf Classic and the PGA Championship. During the 3-day Hilton Head Island Celebrity Golf Tournament, players get a chance to team up with a different celebrity. The Celebrate Freedom Annual Golf Classic, held in October, attracts a large number of players because of its prizes, which include a $10,000 check for a hole-in-one and awards for best long drive, accuracy and proximity to the pin.
