St. George Island has long been one of the most popular vacation spots on the east coast, but finding a golf course on the island may be difficult since it does not have one. There are, however, two in which you will find with just a short coastal drive in either direction.

St. James Bay Golf Course

Just east of Carrabelle, Florida, you will find a Robert Walker designed 18-hole golf course that will challenge the skilled golfer. It will put a smile on the face of any other skill level that wants to play this beautiful course design. With GPS in the carts to help maneuver the course and a Golf Pro on duty to give the lesson you so desperately need to fine tune that game, St. James Bay is the closest to St. George Island, located about 30 minutes away. The course provides a driving range with chipping and putting greens, and the Pro Shop even provides rental clubs if your wife or husband thought it may be too much to bring your own clubs along for a beach vacation. St. James Bay even provides a interactive course guide on its Website (www.stjamesbay.com) so you can see everything before you play it.

In the opposite direction of St. James Golf Course is St. Joseph's Country Club. The green fees are a little more frugal, but the course is still further away. Its scenic course design was developed by Bill Amick. The traditional design of this golf course can challenge any golfer with the placement of their hazards. Accommodations

There are great places to stay near both golf courses. St. Joseph's is close to Port St. Joe, Florida, while St. James has visitors from Cape San Blas and Apalachicola coming in to play what they call the forgotten coastal vacation. There's ample opportunity to enjoy golf and the beauty of St. George Island.
