Things to Do in Chicago If It's Raining
You come to the Chicago area for a golf vacation in the middle of summer. There are a ton of great courses that are at their best at this time of year. You have reservations to play several but are confronted by thunderstorms, and the forecast is for continued rain the rest of the day. You still have the golf bug, but it will be difficult to satisfy. You do have some options, however.

Libertyville Sports Complex

Go to the Libertyville Sports Complex about 25 miles north of Chicago to play on their double-decked, covered driving range. You will stay dry and still get to work on your game at a range that also can give you the benefit of videotaping your swing and having it analyzed by a teaching pro.

White Pines Golf Dome

You can't play 18 holes in the rain, but you can work on your game at the White Pines Golf Dome in Bensenville, about 15 miles west of Chicago. There are eight golf pros on the premises who can help you fine tune your game, and private, semi-private and group lessons are available. Call for a reservation.

The Arboretum Club

The Wild Goose Cafe at the Arboretum Club in Buffalo Grove (about 16 miles northwest of Chicago) is the perfect place to wait out the rain. Have lunch and you'll be prepared to hit the course once the rain stops. It is one of the highest rated golf course restaurants in the Chicago area.

ESPN Zone

You may not be able to play golf because of the weather, but you can enjoy it and other sporting activities from the comfort of the ESPN Zone in downtown Chicago. The ESPN Zone offers full-course dining, sports video games and a slew of televisions to watch golf, baseball and any other big-time event that is being televised--and not just ESPN programs.
