Activities at the Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada

Activities at the Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada
Designed in a Moroccan style, the Sahara Hotel and Casino is one of the oldest on the Strip and one that still retains much of the charm that made it a favorite in the 50s and 60s. If you want a weekend of golf away from the craziness of the biggest hotels, the Sahara has much to offer in the form of prime location and top-of-the-line entertainment.

Casbar Lounge

Chosen as the best lounge in the city by Las Vegas Life magazine (2006), this relaxed, lowly-lit establishment has no cover charge. Live entertainment is on every night from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. Only 21 and over are admitted, although the shows are not racy and consist mostly of live guitar or piano music, with occasional singer presentations.

Old-Time Music

Known as the Platters, Coasters and Marvelettes Show, this act includes three live performances every evening at 7 p.m. The Platters, inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990, have been performing since 1953 and had many Number One hits. The Cornell Gunter's Coasters were the first vocal group to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and perform a mix of R&B and old-time hits. Finally, the Marvelettes, Motown's first hit group, add a soulful touch to the night.

NASCAR Restaurant

If you want a unique environment when having your meals at the Sahara, nothing beats the hotel's NASCAR-themed restaurant. Eat true American fare surrounded by racing décor, which includes NASCAR stock cars in exhibit. Then head to the entertainment area of the restaurant, where you'll find the Las Vegas Cyber Speedway, a simulated race car experience, where drivers sit inside scale reproductions of racing cars, surrounded by a giant screen, and race against other visitors. Just outside, the Pit Pass Arcade offers over 100 games and stations, including many classics, while Speed: The Ride (a roller coaster) takes riders along the Strip before looping around the hotel sign and performing the whole thing again but backwards.

Hotel Amenities

The Sahara has much to offer in the manner of amenities, and visitors should make good use of them. The Sahara pool, for example, has surround-sound music, custom lounge chair covers and unique fountains and catered service. There are three fitness centers on the premises, all of which are open to guests. Also, guests receive the Sahara Coupon Book upon check-in, which features over $200 in discounts for shopping, entertainment and food.
