St. Vincent Island National Wildlife Refuge
The St. Vincent Island National Wildlife Refuge is home to numerous animals and unique flora that attract hikers, environmentalists and bird-watchers all year long. In 2006, the preserve built a series of wooden lodging structures to accommodate the increasing population of bats, who quickly built nests in the open cabins and now offer an impressive twilight view as they leave for their nightly feeding. Migratory birds stop on their way north, while red wolves, crocodiles, white-tailed deer and bald eagles call the island home.

Cape St. George State Reserve
The reserve's most famous sight is the St. George Lighthouse, which was destroyed by Hurricane Dennis in 2005 and reconstructed in 2008. Visitors can now walk up the steps to the top and admire the new lantern and views of the bay. The reserve extends for 28 miles and is a prime destination for hiking, swimming and primitive camping. Because access is only possible by boat and visitors are few, the reserve maintains a rather pristine appearance. Birds are abundant, especially during migration time.
