Burmese Restaurants Near Boston

Lemongrass is common in Burmese cooking.
Influenced by the flavors of China, India and Thailand, Burmese cuisine mingles Asian flavors into a distinct flavor fusion. Living in or visiting the Boston area makes finding Burmese cuisine rather difficult to obtain, but there are a couple of places you can check out to get your hands on some of Myanmar's most favored delicacies.

Burmese-born Sai Kyaw owns and operates the YoMa Burmese Restaurant in Boston, which was deemed "Best of the New: 2008" by the Boston Globe. He grinds by hand the spices that are put into the flavorful Asian dishes that are prepared for his patrons. Such items on the menu include ohn note knot swe, which is a sweet coconut chicken soup, and super pumpkin, which is pumpkin meat, chicken and pork cooked with lemongrass and other decadent flavors.

Andre's Cafe

Located in Boston's historic South End district, Andre's Cafe appears to be little more than a hole-in-the-wall diner, but it is really so much more. With such items on the menu as honey mustard chicken, beef shawarma and stuffed grape leaves, visitors leave with a stuffed belly and satisfied taste buds. The diner specializes in a unique combination of Greek, Middle Eastern and Asian-inspired cuisines, incorporating a wide variety of Burmese foods in the recipes.

Indian Dhaba

Although it isn't a Burmese restaurant, the Indian Dhaba cafe on the Allston corner of downtown Boston offers a wide variety of flavors on its menu. The restaurant shares its central location with several other ethnic eateries of Asian inspiration, giving visitors of the area a gastronomical lesson in flavor. The menu of Indian Dhaba's includes traditional Indian dishes, such as Curry and Methai Latkai, but it also features a variety of Burmese treats, such as pickled tea leaves and mango chutney.
