Hungarian Restaurants in Ottawa, Ontario

By Denise Skwarcan

Canada's capital has plenty of golf and dining options.
Sometimes the Canadian capital of Ottawa is overshadowed by the bigger, more touristy cities of Toronto and Montreal. But it is still a sought-after vacation destination because of its eclectic mix of activities and restaurants. Located on the southern banks of the Ottawa River, Canada's fourth largest municipality offers a variety of golf options for all skill levels. The Marshes Golf Club overlooks the Gatineau Hills and features many water obstacles. Likewise, the Richmond Centennial Golf Course has a front nine suitable for all ages, while the back nine was revamped to add more challenge. After working up an appetite, visitors and locals settle on one of Ottawa's Hungarian restaurants for some good, rib-sticking dishes.

Amber Garden & Dalmacia Restaurant

Owned and operated by Czeslaw and Asia Nowacki, this restaurant specializes in the culinary traditions found along the ancient European amber route from the Mediterranean to the Baltic Sea. Some of the most popular offerings include cabbage rolls, schnitzels, goulash and Hungarian chicken paprikash. Everything is made by hand, and include only the freshest ingredients.

Budapest Delicatessen

If looking for a quicker dining option, diners should check out this deli located in the heart of the Byward Market district. Established in 1955, it made its mark as the first European delicatessen in Ottawa. Guests can sample some Hungarian homemade salami and sausage along with traditional cheeses, or opt for cabbage rolls, crepes and pierogis. The bakery has homemade strudels and pies.
