Golf Courses Near Worthington, MA

A bucolic town in Hampshire Country, Worthington sits in the western tier of Massachusetts, surrounded by Peru State Forest on one side and Gilbert A. Bliss State Forest on the other. Worthington is a warm and inviting community that offers visitors a glimpse of a simpler way of life. Amidst the tranquility of the rolling hills and meandering rivers are several attractive and challenging 18-hole public golf courses.

Pine Grove Golf Club

Pine Grove in nearby Florence offers competitive rates for a solid day of golf. The layout offers variety, and solid scores are not uncommon. Featuring 6,115 yards of golf and par of 72, this course is rated at 68.8 with a slope rating of 121. The par-5 17th hole is true challenge at more than 600 yards, and views from the course are impressive. Pine Grove opened in 1970.

Tekoa Country Club

Tekoa Country Club, 13 miles from the center of Worthington, offers 6,275 yards of golf on bluegrass fairways and bentgrass greens. This is a mostly flat course overlooking the scenic Westfield River. With several water hazards and 40 sand traps, accuracy is important here. The course is rated at 69.6 and has a slope rating of 118. The original layout was opened in 1901. Greens fees are reasonable and carts are available.

Mountain Country Club, East Mountain Course

Located in nearby Westfield, this 18-hole course was built in 1963 from a design by Theodore Perez. Featuring 6,118 yards of golf and a par of 71, the course is rated at 67.5 and has a slope rating of 107. Featuring just a few bunkers and easy rough, the course is very wide and has earned a nickname of "Easy Mountain." It is considered a good course for beginners. The scenery is excellent but there are occasional distractions from the local airport.

Ledges Municipal Golf Course

Situated in the Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts, Ledges Golf Club is a municipal course owned by the village of South Hadley. With a course rating of 72.2, this 18-hole course was designed by Howard Maurer and opened in 2001. The course's slope rating is 133 with a par of 72. It is a well-maintained scenic course--the front nine offers woods and water, with the back nine featuring primarily open space.
