Lake George, located in Somerset County, Maine is known for fishing. There is also a recreational park at the lake that has a local ice rink for skating. Avid golfers will find the 36 regulation hole Natanis Golf Course to be a local favorite. Ranked by Golf Digest as one of the top 500 public courses in the United States, the course offers rugged fields to challenge experienced golfers at the Arrowhead course and the Tomahawk course. Renting a cabin or cottage is a popular way to visit Lake George.

North Pond Retreat

This rustic cabin is right on the water at North Pond. It sleeps up to eight people and is suited for families with children; with a large yard the parents can watch over from one of three porches. A boat dock provides kayaks and paddle boats and there are opportunities to observe rare bird species along the lines of American Bald Eagles and wild loons. The closest towns of Waterville and Augusta are a 30-minute drive away and filled with restaurants and cinemas.

Angell Cove Cottages

Angell Cove Cottages is a popular place to go bass fishing. All cabins are located lakeside and offer private beaches, outdoor gas grills, hiking and biking trails, kayaks and canoes, and private boat docks. Turner Island Golf Course is also just a short drive away. This is a members only golf club but is an alternative to Nantanis Golf Course if you want to pay. The Fore Seasons restaurant, which is open to everyone, offers several different buffets from a brunch to an Italian-styled buffet for supper or a barbecue buffet on weekends.

Nesting Loon

Nesting Loon offers four cabins by the water and range from one room to three-room cabins. The cabins are located on a pond with a private boat dock. The shallow pond makes it safe for children to play in while adults lounge on the green grass. Nesting Loon has 50 acres of land for hiking and bird-watching. Besides bass fishing, trout and salmon have been caught in the area but the creme-de-la-creme is the sighting of local white and black deer.
