As the Ohio River twists and turns its way southward creating a natural border between Ohio and West Virginia, the mighty river passes by the small village of Racine, in Meigs County Ohio. With a population under a thousand, the locals will tell you the town was witness to the only battle of the Civil War fought on Ohio soil in nearby Buffington Island. Don't go looking for an island, there isn't one. But there is a nice park at the battle site. Hotels in Racine are non-existent but some of Ohio's famous bed and breakfasts can be found close by. Golfers should be assured that plenty of courses can be found within 20 minutes of Racine including the Riverside Golf Course in Mason, the Sycamore Creek Golf Club in Ripley and the Cliffside Golf Course in Gallipolis.
Holly Hill Inn
