America's love for Chinese food has never wavered since the cuisine took off in popularity after World War II. No matter where you go in the country, chances are there is a good Chinese restaurant nearby. In this, Cookeville does not dissapoint, as this modest-sized city in Tennessee has not just one good Chinese restaurant, but several. The same is true of golf courses, as three of Tennessee's best are located nearby: the Cookeville Golf Club, the White plains golf course and the Ironwood Golf Course. All three are 18 holes, public, and located in Cookeville.

Mandarin Palace

Mandarin Palace opened in 2009 and has quickly become one of the top choices for quality Chinese food in Cookeville. Three options await you as you enter: a buffet, a hibachi grill and sushi. The restaurant offers attentive service and daily specials. The Chinese dishes are prepared in the Hunan style--with chicken taking center stage, although there are also plenty of beef and seafood offerings. Meals are served family style with large portions being the norm. Buffet hours are 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and dinner is from 3:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sushi is prepared fresh and served at the sushi bar at the back of the restaurant.

A Taste of China

A Taste of China offers a variety of beef, chicken and seafood dishes on a dinner menu as well as a lighter, less-expensive lunch menu (smaller portions). Dinner plates are served family style with the intent that everyone sample all the entrees. This modest, casual establishment is open seven days; hours are Monday through Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Lunch specials are served until 3:00 p.m. There are a few vegetarian dishes on the menu but white rice is your only option (no brown rice).

One of the best options for an inexpensive lunch, New China offers large portions which include rice, egg roll and soup at a bargain price. Lunch prices roll into dinner prices after 2:30. Dinner meals are served family style with all dishes served on a platter for passing around the table. The fare is traditional Chinese, with attention toward American pallets. Popular dishes like orange chicken and sweet and sour chicken are offered. Service is fast and efficient and the prices are among the most competitive for Chinese food in the Cookeville area.
