Tavern Bar, Restaurant and Larder
Restaurateurs Suzanne Goin and Caroline Styne opened the Tavern Bar, Restaurant and Larder in Brentwood in April 2009. The eatery is two individual restaurants. The first is the larder, a cafe that serves sandwiches made with bread baked on the premises. Takeout, with curb service, also is available. The second is the dining room featuring olives--on live trees. Lamb, salads and duck are restaurant menu offerings and a special child's menu is offered. Dress is upscale casual for the larder and dressy for evening dinner in the restaurant. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served at both venues and reservations are required for all meals. Street parking is difficult, but not impossible to find.

La Provence Patisserie
La Provence Patisserie, located on the upper floor of the Brentwood Gardens, opened in September 2009 as an eatery offering breakfast, lunch and dinner service, with breakfast served any time during the day. The waitstaff allows guests to taste any dish before ordering. Salad, sandwiches, lamb, French onion soup and chop salad are featured menu items, as are cheeseburgers, mac and cheese, French dip sandwiches and Caesar salads. Macaroon cookies are just one offering on the dessert menu. Fee parking is available in the restaurant building and reservations are not taken. Prices are moderate and dress is casual.

sugarFISH
A new Brentwood eatery opened July 2009 espousing a pure style of eating known as "Trust Me." Sushi chef Kazunori Nozawa designed the restaurant sugarFISH based on a philosophy that incorporates homemade soy sauce and ponzu and art-cut fish. The sushi is prepared in the kitchen from the diners' choice of only two choices. This menu idea is built on the Japanese-style, chef-designed food selection known as omakase. There is some selection within the two categories on both the lunch and dinner menus. These include: Trust Me, with sushi and hand roll options, and the Trust Me Lite, presenting smaller portions of the main Trust Me menu. Takeout meals also are offered from the two menu choices. European and California white wines, Japanese bottled beer and sake beverage options fill out the menu. Brentwood street parking is available, but difficult to locate, so allow ample time for parking. The restaurant is open seven days and reservations are not accepted. Dress is upscale trendy and pricing is celebrity high.
