Homesteads Tower Museum
Originally built in 1938 to house the administrative offices of Cumberland Homesteads, a New Deal depression-era program, this building was converted in 1984 to the Homesteads Tower Museum. Exhibits at this unique octagonal stone structure include a collection of documents, photos and artifacts from the 1930's and 1940's, a significant time in the area's development. A long, winding staircase leads to a lookout platform at the top of the building from which most of the original 252 farmsteads can be seen. The Homesteads Tower and Museum is open daily, March through mid-December, and children under 6-years old are admitted free (See museum website).
