Toronto is set on the shores of Lake Ontario in the Ontario province of eastern Canada. According to its website, the city of Toronto is the financial, cultural and entertainment capital of Canada. There are many attractions for visiting tourists; the arts, fashion, museums, food, water recreation and golfing all draw thousands of people to the Toronto area each year. Wellington Street, a main Toronto thoroughfare, is a historic area now bustling with activity by day and at night in the area's many bars, restaurants, businesses and shops.

Trevor Kitchen and Bar

On its website, the Trevor Kitchen and Bar touts itself as "the anti-elitist fine dining experience." It offers a dinner menu and a small-plates lounge menu nightly. Tasting menus with beer or wine pairings are available during special events; check the restaurant's website for details. A full bar and lounge area offers specialty cocktails and a small wine list of limited production wines are carefully chosen to complement menu selections. Specialties-of-the-house include lobster and prawn spaghettini, crispy duck breast with chestnuts and seared fois gras with blueberry pancakes.

Bar Wellington

Bar Wellington, located in a renovated historic Victorian home, is popular with locals, tourists and visiting celebrities. The restaurant is open for lunch until late night seven days a week with a brunch menu also offered on weekends. Bar Wellington serves mostly traditional continental cuisine as well as some updated casual bar recipes. The menu includes a grilled chicken nicoise sandwich, grilled calamari salad and chicken wings. Prime rib dinners are often on Sunday nights; guests can bring their own bottled wines into the restaurant on those evenings. A large array of specialty drinks, beers, wines and specialty coffees are available from the full-service bar.

Le Select Bistro

Le Select Bistro is a French-style bistro serving fine cuisine in downtown Toronto. According to Le Select's website, chef Albert Ponzo's "French cuisine interpreted with flair, respect and imagination has garnered accolades from critics, regular patrons and visitors from France and Quebec." His specialties include skate wing in brown butter with capers, stuffed pig feet and roasted leg of lamb. Classic Steak Frites is a local favorite; a special Steak Frites menu is offered exclusively on weekend afternoons. Le Select Bistro is open for lunch, dinner and late night offerings Monday through Friday as well as for brunch through late nights on Saturday and Sunday. A wine list and full bar are offered; wine pairings are suggested on the menu.

Bymark

Bymark Restaurant's inviting space attracts both local and visiting diners. The restaurant features two main dining areas in both the concourse and the courtyard. The concourse level contains a main dining room as well as three small private dining rooms that can accommodate up to fourteen guests. The courtyard allows for outside dining, and the bar area sits under enclosed glass for views of the night sky. Bymark offers contemporary cuisine as well as updated classic dishes. House specialties include an open-faced BLT with a fried quail egg, roasted Cornish hen with potato gnocchi and passionfruit creme brulee with coconut ice cream. Bymark is open daily for lunch and dinner, and a special bar menu with small plates is also available.

Marben Restaurant

Marben Restaurant features eclectic cuisine that includes several different regional influences. According to Amy Pataki's review in the Toronto Star, Marben's summer tomato salad is done in three different styles (Latin, Mideast or Italian), which is "a veritable United Nations of vine-ripened restraint". Other dishes include a roasted pear salad, Szechuan-encrusted Arctic char and tandoori-rubbed chicken breast. A full-service bar, with specialty cocktails and several homemade desserts round out the menu. Marben Restaurant is open for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Friday, Saturday for brunch and dinner and Sunday for brunch only.
