Springfield, Missouri is a city located less than an hour's drive from Branson. The area includes numerous golf courses, including the Bill and Payne Stewart Municipal Golf Course. The public course, opened in 1947, is named for the renowned father (Bill, a Missouri Amateur winner, who died of cancer in 1985) and son (Payne, a two-time U.S. Open champion, who died in a plane crash in 1999) from the area.
