Bike Trails
If you'd rather venture out on your own than join a group tour, explore Washington's several bike trails, most of which converge near Theodore Roosevelt Island in Rosslyn, Virginia. From the island, you can access many trails including the Potomac Tour and the Arlington Triangle. The Potomac Tour starts at Roosevelt Island, and then you can bike around the Potomac River, crossing at two points bridges: the Key Bridge between Rosslyn and Georgetown, or the14th Street/I-395 bridge near the Thomas Jefferson Memorial. For the Arlington Triangle, begin at Roosevelt Island and follow the Mt. Vernon trail south along the Potomac River, past the Reagan National Airport. The route then switches to the Four Mile Run Trail, which heads west over to the Shirlington Area, where a short on-road detour leads to a crossing of I-395. On the west side of I-395, the trail then meets I-66 and the route switches to the Custis Trail, returning back to the start. For more information, view the website bikewashington.org/visitor.htm.
