Good Italian restaurants around Manhattan's New York Times building are plentiful. But golfing opportunities in the area are few. One quality option is the golf club at Chelsea Piers, an official First Tee facility. Here you'll find a golf simulator, a golf academy, driving range and 2,000 square feet of indoor training space.

Becco

Located in New York's Theater District, Becco offers pre-fixe and a la carte menus that include antipasto and classic Caesar's salad for appetizers and entrees of veal, pork, chicken and fish that range in price from about $20 to $35 (2009 prices). A long wine list ranges from $30 to $2,000, and a sommelier will guide you. Several rooms are available for private functions, the largest accommodating up to 100 people. Attire is casual, and Randall's Island Golf Center is 4.3 miles away.

Mario's Trattoria

Just a short walk from Times Square is Mario's Trattoria, a cozy and inviting venue that's a good bet for brick oven pizza and Napoli-style pastas like rigatoni pomodoro. Head to the bar for pre-dinner cocktails or a drink after a Broadway show. Entrees consist of seafood, chicken and veal, and prices are unlisted. Catering is available, and attire is casual. Mini golf and driving ranges are available at Hoboken Golf, 2.5 miles away.

Trattoria Trecolori

The family-owned and run Trattoria Trecolori is a casual eatery with a long wall of exposed brick and a rustic but warm decor. Guests will enjoy appetizers of salads, soups, frutti di mare and antipasto. Pastas include penne arrabiata and farfalle primavera, and entrees consist of chicken, veal and seafood dishes like trefunghi, piccata and calamari alla Luciana. Entree prices range from about $16 to $26, and attire is casual. Many desserts are homemade, like its ricotta cheesecake, tiramisu and chocolate cake.
