New Hotels in Agra
What would a trip to India be without a stop in Agra? After all, it is the home of the nation's most iconic tourist attraction: the Taj Mahal. Golfers will be doubly pleased during a stay here, since the north-central city's nine-hole Agra Golf Course is located only a half-mile of the Taj. While much of the city's splendor dates back nearly 500 years to the heyday of the Mughal Empire, visitors can choose from a range of new, modern-style hotels, many within a mile of the Taj and the golf course.

Oberoi Amarvilas

The Oberoi Amarvilas won a spot on the "Conde Nast Traveler" Best New Hotels in the World list for 2001 and the accolades haven't stopped since. It was ranked the world's sixth best hotel in the "Travel and Leisure" 2008 reader's survey, and named the world's twenty-first best hotel in the "Conde Nast Traveler" 2009 Readers' Choice Awards, to name just two of its honors.

Located a half-mile from the Taj Mahal, the Oberoi Amarvilas is a palace in its own right, built in a combination of Mughal and Moorish styles and surrounded by gardens filled with fountains, reflection pools and green lawns. All of the 102 guest rooms feature views of the Taj Mahal and come with amenities, such as a mini-bar, LCD TV, DVD player, WiFi and broadband Internet connections. The hotel's main Bellevue restaurant serves international and Indian cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner, while the Esphahan offers traditional Indian fare in a formal dinner-only setting. The Amarvilas bar serves up wines, spirits and cigars, and the lounge bar offers snacks and light beverages. Like the guest rooms, all of the restaurants and bars have views of the Taj Mahal. For relaxation, guests can head to the spa where therapists provide personalized holistic Indian and Thai-based treatments. Or they can soak in the heated swimming pool, surrounded by white marble colonnades and torch-lit terraces.

Trident Agra

The courtyard and main structure of the Trident Agra are done in the red sandstone common to the Mughal era. The interior, however, is pure contemporary. The 136 guest rooms and two suites offer views of the hotel's landscaped and fountain-filled gardens, while amenities include a mini-bar, satellite TV, air conditioning and WiFi. The main hotel restaurant, featuring an ultra-modern, cubist-inspired décor, features buffet and a la carte dining and dishes, ranging from Indian and Southeast Asian to continental European. The Alfresco restaurant specializes in pizza and other Italian foods, while drinks and snacks are served at the lobby bar and coffee shop. Recreational opportunities at the Trident include a swimming pool, fitness center, jogging track and a children's playground. The hotel is located approximately one mile from the Taj Mahal.

ITC Mughal

This modern resort features 268 rooms and five suites on a 35-acre parcel about two miles southwest of the Taj Mahal. The spacious rooms come with mini-bar and pay-per-use WiFi, and a stay includes a complimentary buffet breakfast. The ITC Mughal has four restaurants: Peshawri is a specialty Tandoor eatery, Bagh-E-Bahaar serves three meals a day by the gardens, Taj Bano offers international cuisine, and the Mahjong Room specializes in Sichuan and Cantonese food. For drinks and snacks, guests should head to the Maikhana lobby bar. The hotel proclaims its spa, which overlooks a small pond, to be the country's largest. Its facilities include eight treatment rooms, a sauna and outdoor rain showers. Guests can also enjoy a 25-meter swimming pool, yoga gardens, nature trails and a butterfly park. For more of an adrenaline rush, they can try the ATV dirt track.
