Located in west central Louisiana, Allen Parish is a gambling destination and is home to the Coushatta Grand Casino in Kinder, which is run by a local Indian tribe. The casino is about 40 minutes northeast of Lake Charles and about three hours east of Houston. There are several hotels, including a full-service casino hotel, in Kinder. There are only a handful of golf courses in the area, including the Koasati Pines At Coushatta, which was designed by Kevin Tucker and opened in 2002. The course was selected to the "Golf Digest" Top-Rated Golf Courses for Louisiana in 2005-06.
