Tiger's Eye Golf Links at Ocean Ridge Plantation

In 2000, Tiger's Eye Golf Links at Ocean Ridge Plantation was the home to Carolina's PGA Senior Championship. It was also named "Best New Public Golf Course in America" by Golf Digest that same year. You can find these 18 holes on 40 acres north of Myrtle Beach in Sunset Beach, North Carolina.

Brunswick Town State Historic Site and Ft. Anderson

Brunswick Town State Historic Site and Ft. Anderson is located near Wilmington, North Carolina. Brunswick Town was a major port during the pre-Revolutionary time and was destroyed by British troops. Fort Anderson was built on top of Brunswick Town during the Civil War, both of which are still visible for visitors interested in Colonial history.

Grandfather Mountain

Grandfather Mountain can be found in Linville, North Carolina, close to Johnson City, Tennessee. Grandfather Mountain is a great place for nature lovers, as it features plenty of scenic views and hiking trails. There is also a mile-high swinging bridge for those who dare to cross it.

Pisgah National Forest

Pisgah National Forest, located south of Asheville, covers more than 500,000 acres and offers plenty of activities for nature lovers. There is a natural water slide at Sliding Rock, campgrounds, waterfalls, lakes and hiking trails to get you started.

National Whitewater Center

On the banks of the Catawba River, just 10 minutes from Charlotte, you will find the U.S. National Whitewater Center. It is home to the world's largest recirculating artificial whitewater river, as well as being the only multiple channel one in existence. Here you will also find the world's highest volume big water paddling channel, the steepest slalom channel and a seven-foot high surf wave. It is the Olympic training site and home of U.S. Canoe and Kayak. If you are not into water sports, check out their rock climbing center. It has 40 routes up 47 feet, as well as 37-feet tall towers. Other things on site include a high rope challenge course; flat-water paddling on the real river; 11 miles of trails for running, biking and hiking; a restaurant and other retail facilities.
