Nags Head Beach, North Carolina is located along a chain of barrier islands known as the Outer Banks. Stretching 11 miles between the Atlantic coastline and Roanoke Sound, Nags Head is at the northern end of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The town's natural beauty and mild climate make it a popular vacation spot for golf, water sports, fishing and hiking. Visitors can also explore historical sites dating back to the 1800s.

Jockey's Ridge State Park

Jockey's Ridge is a series of five towering sand dunes ranging from 80 to 100 feet. They are the tallest natural dunes on the East Coast and attract climbers, hang gliders and kite flyers. The 426-acre state park includes a boardwalk, hiking trails, museum and ranger programs.

The USS Huron is North Carolina's first Historic Shipwreck Preserve. The ship was on a mission to survey the coast of Cuba when it sunk just offshore during a heavy storm on November 23, 1877. Its wreckage is located about 250 yards from the beach and is marked by buoys during the summer. The ship's boilers, cannonball storage rack, propeller and rudder are easily viewed by divers and snorkelers.
