Venezuelan Restaurants in San Francisco

Venezuelan Restaurants in San Francisco
There is only one Venezuelan restaurant in the city of San Francisco as of 2009, but there are two more in other parts of the San Francisco Bay Area, one in Napa Valley and another in Palo Alto. The city of San Francisco has seven golf courses (excluding those in neighboring cities), while Napa has five and Palo Alto has two. Golflink lists many more courses for each of these places, but the lists overlap one another since each list includes neighboring cities and these three cities are neighboring Bay Area cities.

Restaurant Salto Angel

This restaurant is named after the world's highest waterfall, which is in Venezuela. Salto Angel was originally named Yunza Restaurant, also Venezuelan and with basically the same menu. This restaurant serves empanadas and arepas, traditional Venezuelan dishes. Some dishes are similar to Peruvian and Mexican dishes, which is why this restaurant is also classified as such. Parking is easy and the service is good. It is also a relatively inexpensive, family-type restaurant where casual-wear is the norm. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner.

Coupa Café

Beverly Hills was the first location of this Venezuelan restaurant. The Stanford shop, which is popular with students, is the third location. Arabica beans from Venezuela's mountains are freshly brewed daily in the Palo Alto location, which is within a historical building and 33 miles south of San Francisco. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served daily and a wine list is available. The menu includes dishes such as Pabellon, Polvoroso de Pollo, and Asado Negro, which come from Venezuelan recipes of the Coupal family who own the café. Pastries are popular for "merienda," or snacks in-between meals. WiFi is free.

Pica Pica Maize Kitchen

In Spanish, picapica means bar food and maize means corn. The items available in this bar-restaurant are obviously the reasons for the name of the place. Typical Venezuelan food, cachapas are pancakes made of sweet corn which are folded then filled with meat or cheese. Arepas are grilled cakes crispy outside and moist inside, also made of corn and filled with chicken or steak or beans. Bar food includes ceviche (the specialty of the bar) and arepa bites. Drinks include batidos, or blended fruit juices. Special events are held monthly, while live music is played every Friday. Napa is 47 miles, about an hour's drive, from San Francisco.
