Starting in the 1970s, Mexican immigrants started coming to Lexington, Kentucky to work in the horse breeding industry. The city now has a strong Mexican-American presence, resulting in a number of thoroughly enjoyable Mexican restaurants. The rolling bluegrass country has also given rise to several beautiful golf courses, making Lexington a magnet for golfers. These two factors mean that wherever golfers choose to play in Lexington, they won't be very far from some good Mexican food.
Rincon Mexicano
This casual restaurant is an area favorite, especially with students at the nearby University of Kentucky, for its reasonably priced food, which is arguably the best Mexican cuisine in Lexington. It includes the standard fajita, enchilada, burrito entrees of the normal Mexican-American restaurant, but also a few choices that are more authentic, such as mole poblano. The Chevy Chase location makes it a natural dinner stop on the way home from Idle Hour Country Club.

Clamato's Meixcan Restaurant
Set in a converted Frisch's Big Boy hamburger restaurant, Clamato's doesn't look like much. However, this restaurant is Lexington's most authentic Mexican eatery. The surrounding neighborhood has become the city's Hispanic district, complete with Mexican supermarkets, and Clamato's is the kind of place where diners can get the sort of Spanish-inspired seafood dishes like octopus salad that are commonplace in some parts of Mexico, but unknown in the most Mexican-American eateries. It is easily one of the city's best kept secrets, and the location is slightly more than a mile from the Big Elm Country Club.

Mi Mexico (Richmond Road)
Mi Mexico is a regional chain with other locations on the northern stretch of New Circle Road and in nearby Georgetown. For golfers, the Richmond Road location has the advantage of being near such courses as Andover Country Club, Tates Creek Country Club and Lakeside Golf Course. The menu consists of normal Mexican-American fare like tacos, fajitas, heuvos con chorizo, as well as steaks and a pair of mole dishes. The restaurant has a patio, making it a good place to enjoy chips and salsa with big margarita pitchers.
