Take the Hana Highway
Without a doubt the road from Kahalui to Hana is the most beautiful drive on the island of Maui. Along the way, you will see numerous waterfalls, some of which are situated by the side of the road. There are also black and even red sand beaches, and lots of opportunities to hike and snorkel. The drive along the Hana Highway isn't about getting to Hana--in fact many visitors don't even stay in Hana instead choosing to drive back the same day--it's about enjoying the journey. To follow the Hana Highway simply follow Route 36.

Whale Watching
According to the guidebook, "Maui Revealed," every year more than 1000 humpback whales migrate to the warm, shallow waters around Maui County from their feeding grounds in Alaska. They come to Hawaii to mate and also to give birth to their young. Maui is one of the best places in the state to look for Humpback whales. There are numerous companies that offer whale watching tours. One popular company is the Pacific Whale Foundation, which is a non-profit organization. On their boat tour you'll receive detailed information about whale behavior, and you'll even get a chance to listen to some whale song. The Pacific Whale Foundation has boats leaving from both Lahaina and Maalaea harbors.

Snorkel at Kaanapali Beach
Kaanapali Beach is situated up on the west side of the island. It is one of the nicest beaches on the island, featuring calm turquoise water and white sand beaches, and offering views of Lanai and Molokai. If you've ever considered doing some snorkeling (or scuba diving) Kaanapali is an excellent place to start. The visibility is exceptional at Kaanapali, and you'll find the best variety of fish close to Black Rock, which is the large lava rock formation that juts out of the ocean. At Black Rock you're likely to see trigger fish, needle fish and even some green sea turtles. In addition, if you will be staying in Kaanapali, don't forget to visit the Kaanapali Golf Resort nearby.
