Golf Resorts in San Francisco

Golf Resorts in San Francisco
There are four 18-hole golf resorts in the city of San Francisco, and one of them also has a nine-hole course. In addition, there are two other nine-hole golf courses in the city, the Gleneagles International and the Golden Gate Park courses. Just outside the city limits are two other golf resorts, the Olympic Club and the Lake Merced courses in Daly City. There are a number of golf resorts very close to the city, and many more in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Harding Park Golf Courses

This resort has an 18-hole, par 72, 6,743-yard course and a nine-hole, par 32, 2,300-yard course. The property is owned by the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department; the courses, clubhouse and driving range are open to the public. Though the resort has been there since 1925, the golf courses have gone through decades of neglect and various rebirths, such as the hosting of the 2005 World Golf Championship. The Cypress Grill at the clubhouse serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Lincoln Park Golf Course

This is an 18-hole, par 69, 5,146-yard course with great views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the Pacific Ocean. Membership is open to the public. For 23 years, it was the only municipal golf course owned by the city. The first three holes were constructed in 1909 in what was once a cemetery called Potter's Field. There was no fee to play until the 1920s when $2 a month was charged. The club was established in 1914 and the clubhouse was constructed in 1922. The Legion of Honor Museum, built in 1923 to honor the dead soldiers of World War I, still stands on the property.

Presidio Golf Course and Clubhouse

An 18-hole, par 72, 6,477-yard course, the Presidio golf course was opened to the public in 1995, even as the Presidio private club remains. It is open daily from dawn to dusk, runs through Eucalyptus and Monterey Pine trees in hilly terrain, and offers special discounts for Bay Area and San Francisco residents. Built in 1897, the clubhouse is located in the Presidio Forest, serves lunch and dinner daily, and retains some sense of history despite more recent additions and improvements.
