Schenectady, New York, is about 20 miles northwest of the capital city of Albany and about 22 miles south of the thoroughbred racing and spas of Saratoga Springs. There are almost 40 golf courses in the region, and the Adirondack Park is a short drive away. Thomas Edison founded the Edison Machine Works here in 1886. The company later became General Electric.

Parker Inn

The Parker Inn is adjacent to Proctors Theatre in downtown Schenectady. The property has 23 rooms with six suites, including a Presidential Suite with an oversized tub. All rooms have free high-speed Internet access and premium cable channels. Complimentary continental breakfast is served every morning. Public areas of the hotel are decorated in Victorian style. The Parker Inn has a no-smoking policy. The Alto Grille is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday, from 4 to 11 p.m. Saturday and from 4 to 10 p.m. Sunday. The restaurant opens for lunch on the weekends when there are shows at the theater next door.

Mallozzi's Belvedere Hotel

This boutique hotel in the southern part of Schenectady has both standard rooms and suites. Standard rooms have either a queen bed or two double beds. Suites have king-sized beds, a separate living room and a Jacuzzi. Complimentary continental breakfast is served daily. The restaurant next door serves an Italian buffet dinner every Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m. The Vitoria Adamo day spa is within four blocks of the hotel.

Stockade Inn

The Stockade Inn, one of the oldest buildings in Schenectady, is located in an historical neighborhood with roots that date to a 17th-century Dutch settlement. The restored inn has 18 rooms and suites with complimentary wi-fi access and premium cable. Dinner and Sunday brunch featuring upscale American cuisine are served in the dining room. Live jazz is offered in the lounge every Thursday and Friday from 7 to 10 p.m. Complimentary continental breakfast is served every morning.

Glen Sanders Mansion

The Inn at Glen Sanders Mansion is in Scotia, just north of downtown Schenectady. The mansion's kitchen is the only part that remains from the home that was built on the site in the 18th century. Suites at the inn have four-poster beds, separate sleeping and living areas, fireplaces and two-person Jacuzzis. Standard rooms have a king bed or two queen-sized beds. Angelo's Tavolo offers fine dining on site. The restaurant is open for dinner Monday through Saturday from 5 to 9:30 p.m. It also serves Sunday brunch, and the lounge opens at 4 p.m. daily.
