Mackinac Island Attractions
Mackinac Island, Michigan has horse-drawn carriage rides and an annual fudge festival. This northern Michigan city features a plethora of attractions for tourists. Visitors can golf at the two golf courses located in town, including the 18-hole public Jewel Golf Course in the warmer months. Tourists can also explore historic Fort Mackinac or the Haunted Theatre.

The Haunted Theatre

As you tour Mackinac's historic Haunted Theatre, be prepared to be frightened by wax monsters popping out at you. Eerie music from the Phantom of the Opera plays as you enter, and you will encounter historic Mackinac monsters like the Ocryx, a winged mythological creature, shaped like a wolf, rat, and serpent. Also, there's Mackinac's legendary Manitou, which rises from Devil's Lake in the shape of a horned bull. The Haunted Theatre is open daily from May to October from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. As of 2009, admission was $6 a person.

During the summer, you can view the butterflies in the butterfly garden, as the facility receives and raises almost 500 butterfly pupae each week. You may recognize the orange monarch from North America or the Blue Morpho from Costa Rica as you explore the garden, listening to waterfalls and classical music. Afterward, check out the tropical bugs in the Insect World. The Butterfly House is open daily in the summer from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and as of 2009, costs $7.50 for adults and $4 for children.
