Itihaas Indian restaurant
The restaurant has the motto "where contemporary meets tradition." The slate-finished walls, carved stone elephants and Indian paintings add to the ambience. You can dine in one of two dining rooms: The Colonial Room overlooks the canal, and the Maharaja Suite below exhibits opulent interiors. Dishes from North India, Mumbai and even Kenya are served. Starters include Tawa Tilapia and Chotte Kofte, while main dishes include Bahterey and Tandoori Trout and other delicacies. Vegetarians can choose from 11 dishes such as the smoked aubergine in masala sauce.

The maharaja
The Maharaja is one of the oldest Indian restaurants in Birmingham. After undergoing a remodel, the Maharaja offers light color schemes and classic cream-leather chairs. Specialties of the house include the butter chicken, rogan josh, and lamb passander, along with many other North Indian dishes. The restaurant opens for lunch and dinner on weekdays and Saturday, and only for dinner on Sunday evenings. It won the Egon Ronay Indian Restaurant award some years back.
