Shula's Steak House
The 18th destination of the high-end steak house conceptualized by the legendary Miami Dolphins coach opened in December 2009 inside the Richmond Hilton Conference Center & Spa. The mahogany-enhanced dining room is decorated with black and white photos of famous football players, while menu highlights are an array of Angus premium "Shula cut" steaks, including a 48-oz. porterhouse (if you finish it, you become a member in Shula's "48-Ounce Club." Non-meat eaters have choices of salads, salmon and crab cakes.

Buckhead's Restaurant and Chop House
A local favorite for 15 years, Buckhead's hand cuts and trims its steaks daily. Rib eye, filet mignon and steak fromage with blue cheese are specialties, while veal, lamb and pork are offered as alternatives. Non-meat eaters can choose among lobster, crab, shrimp and salmon. The restaurant also boasts an extensive wine list with more than 700 selections, premium scotches and bourbons, and a humidor stocked with hand-rolled cigars.

Hondos
The locally owned and operated restaurant serves prime beef from a Chicago-based company that services a limited number of steakhouses nationwide. In addition to staples such as New York strip and filet mignon, the menu features a cowboy cut rib eye and a Kansas City dry-aged strip. Vegetarian pasta, chicken breast Milanese and a selection of seafood including tuna, lobster and shrimp are also available. Hondos also presents and extensive wine list.

Morton's The Steakhouse
Located in the Shockoe Slip area, a block from the revitalized Canal Walk, Morton's offers a $5 bar menu from 5 p.m. until close, with selections such as four petite filet mignon sandwiches, three mini crab cakes and blue cheese French fries. The main dining room menu contains mainstays of the chain such as prime rib and New York strip, but also Morton's specialties filet Oskar, Cajun rib eye and a double porterhouse. Alaskan king crab legs, whole-baked Maine lobster and chicken Christopher are some choices for non-beef eaters.

Ruth's Chris Steak House
The Richmond location of this national chain--which celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2005--serves USDA Prime steaks, seared at 1,800 degrees and topped with butter. Steak choices include a porterhouse for two, a T-bone, rib eye and filets. Other entree offerings are barbecued shrimp, lamb chops, lobster and an ahi-tuna stack.

Fleming's Prime Steakhouse
The restaurant's bar offers the novelty of "5 for $6 until 7"--five cocktails, five wines and five appetizers for $6 each are served at the bar until 7 p.m. A prime burger menu complements one filled with USDA cuts such as New York strip, bone-in rib eye and, on Sundays only, prime rib.
