Hotels in Las Vegas for Kids

By Timothy Sexton

Hotels in Las Vegas for Kids
This neon desert oasis is called Sin City with good reason: There are elements that aren't kid-friendly. This makes finding a hotel that targets kids and families all the more important, so they will have a good time while you are out on the golf course. Some hotels in Las Vegas are more kid-friendly than others.

Excalibur

That castle you see isn't a real castle; it's the Excalibur Hotel. Less fancy and less expensive than other less kid-friendly hotels, the Excalibur provides plenty for the kids to love: a SpongeBob SquarePants 4-D simulator ride, the huge Fantasy Faire indoor arcade, and the stores inside the Castle Walk shopping center. Be sure to check out the Tournament of Kings dinner show where in between jousts it is perfectly acceptable, even mandatory, to eat with your fingers.

Orleans Hotel

Although based on a Mardi Gras theme, the Orleans is one of the most kid-friendly hotels in the city. It has an 18-screen cineplex that will keep your little movie lovers entertained. If you prefer the kids be a little more active, you can take them to the hotel's private 70-lane bowling alley. You can't call a hotel kid-friendly unless it has an arcade, and the Orleans delivers. For kids age 3-12, the Kids Tyme entertainment center lets boys and girls climb their way though a maze of chutes and ladders and tunnels and bubbles. Even the dining options are kid-friendly. While parents can find upscale dining choices, the hotel also offers Sbarro, Subway, T.G.I. Friday's and Fuddruckers.
Best of all, the Orleans is less expensive than most other hotels in Las Vegas.

Stratosphere

Families with older, adventurous kids shouldn't pass up the Stratosphere. The biggest draw is the thrill-ride complex located at the top of the 866-foot Stratosphere Tower. If heaven for your children is dangling their ankles hundreds of feet in the air with nothing between them and the asphalt, then this is a can't-miss destination. In addition to three thrill rides on top of the tower, the Stratosphere also features a 67,000-square-foot roof-top pool.
The best part about this hotel might be that it's located a good distance away from the Strip, so you might save your kids from seeing some of the seamier sides of Vegas life.
