Attractions Near Orlando, Florida
Disney World, Universal and Sea World have made Orlando famous and bring thousands of tourists to the city every week, but there is more to this Central Florida area than just theme parks. When you arrive for a vacation in Orlando make sure to set aside a day or two to visit some of the lesser-advertised attractions that can make your stay more complete. Some of these sites actually predate the theme parks while others appeal to the interests of golfers more than the more famous tourist attractions.

Arnold Palmer Golf Academy at Bay Hill Golf Club

The Arnold Palmer Golf Academy can be found at the Bay Hill Club and Lodge. The Academy actually teaches you to play golf according to how the legendary PGA champ went about winning so many tournaments. Lessons begin by focusing on fundamentals like grip and the proper address of the ball before moving onto more sophisticated levels of golf education like developing a total course strategy. Palmer's approach to golf also focuses on the essential value of learning how to practice efficiently.

Gatorland

Long before Disney's Animal Kingdom appeared on the scene there was Gatorland. This original Orlando roadside attraction first introduced Florida tourists to its collection of alligators in the 1950s. Today, Gatorland is a 110-acre park and nature conservancy. The façade of Gatorland is one of the most recognizable in the city as you walk into the gift shop through the massive open mouth of a toothy gator. Gatorland is not all about alligators and you can expect to find snakes and other reptiles that call the swamps of Florida home. The big draw for Gatorland is still the shows, however. Step inside and learn about these incredible creatures as you watch massive gators jumping out of the water for food or watch as pros wrestle with these dangerous animals.

Old Town

Old Town is a Kissimmee attraction that lets you take a step away from the high-tech sophistication of Orlando's theme parks. This time travel machine masquerading as a tourist attraction features bumper cars and tilt-a-whirls and other types of rides that were a staple for county fairs half a century ago. Live music is performed by Elvis impersonators and other throwbacks to the 50s and 60s. Weekends at Old Town are highlighted by Cruise Nights on Friday and Saturday when vintage vehicles are on parade.
